Cardamom Spice

Cardamom spice is the enchanting spice of India. It is a spice that spans thousands of years and has been used in countries like India and Persia for a very long time. Cardamom spice can be used in food and drinks and it is renowned for having a taste that is unparalleled. Because of its somewhat expensive price, many people try to find substitutes using the likes of cinnamon, nutmeg, allspice or some other substance with the hopes of matching the delicious flavor of cardamom.

Cardamom spice is known as the “Queen of Spices”, and it has an overpowering taste and aroma. It is very popular in India. Cardamom spice tastes like a combination of oranges and herbs with very strong flavor.

It is often used in conjunction with basmati rice and soups, and you will often find this spice in Indian restaurants across the world. It is, in a sense, one of the cultural heritages of South India, with centuries of history on its back. Perhaps all that history has given it an even stronger and more delicious taste in the 21st century?

Cardamom SpiceCardamom spice is healthy too, and is known to help with bad breath, gums and teeth. Egyptians were fond of using cardamom seeds to heal their gums and teeth, but the spice itself also contains healing properties.

If you’ve been a regular coffee drinker for many years and you are thinking of quitting, you should know that cardamom spice can also be used to purge caffeine from the body. It is thus extremely helpful to fight caffeine addictions.

Unsurprisingly, it also helps with your appetite. But then, this is hardly shocking. With such a delicious spice it would be difficult to not want more of it. If you’re going to get addicted to something, cardamom spice isn’t a bad thing to get addicted to as it does have numerous health benefits.

Because of its overpowering flavor, this spice is also used in sweets. If you go to India you will find that many sweets have cardamom in them. Sesame cardamom candies(Til Gul Ladoo) are quite common in convenience stores in India.

Tea is also a victim of the deliciousness of cardamom spice. You will find that a tea made with this spice is quite different from your average tea. It will have a strong, unique flavor. A common way to make a very delicious cardamom tea is to simply boil some water, add two cardamom tea bags and add a good quantity of honey. A sip of this tea will drive you crazy(and it will make you a cardamom addict!).

Rice with tomato sauce and cardamom spice is also common recipe in India.

Green cardamom spice is the most popular variety, but there are also other spices like black cardamom spice which can be used with certain dishes. The black variety tastes a bit more raunchy. There is a somewhat general consensus that the green variety of spice is superior in taste and quality, although this is not empirically true as black cardamom works very well with certain dishes.

Overall, cardamom spice can be used for many things but remember that it is one of the most expensive spices in the world. It used to be far more expensive, practically a luxury item, but nowadays you can get a reasonable amount of spice for $10 or so. It’s still very expensive compared to typical spices, but the damn spice is so good that you would probably pay any price for it, right? 😉
