Swedish Cardamom Bread
The legendary Swedish cardamom bread! This is one of the most delicious breads you can possible make, but in order to create this sacred and ecstatic bread, you will need a bread machine. If you don’t have one, you can probably find a cheap one for about $50. The more expensive and powerful bread machines will often cost up to $500.
A bread machine is very useful and an essential tool in any kitchen. Since it can be used to make so many kinds of baked goodies, there’s really no excuse not to get one. Bread machines are also extremely simple to use, so even a newbie baker can use them well. So get a bread machine and let’s move on.
If you don’t have a bread machine, then you’ll have to do things manually: Turning out the dough, kneading it, and using the oven.
I’m a vegan myself, so all the ingredients you see here will be vegan. So this is a unique swedish cardamom bread.
Nevertheless, you can replace the vegan ingredients with non-vegan ingredients if you like. They are only a basic reference. The ingredients you need to use in order to make Swedish cardamom bread are: half a cup of rice milk, half a cup of sugar, a teaspoon of salt, 8 or so cups of flour, 5 tablespoons of ground flax seed plus water and a teaspoon of dry yeast.
You will also, of course, need cardamom. However this is where there is some controversy. Most people seem to prefer ground cardamom but I don’t agree. I believe ground cardamom to be of a lesser quality when compared to green cardamom, and so here I present you with two choices for your cardamom ingredients.
You may either use a teaspoon of ground cardamom or you may use 10 green cardamom pods. Whichever you use is up to you, and it honestly depends on your preference. If you happen to be a fan of ground cardamom, then go ahead and use it. If not, use green cardamom, or even black cardamom. The possibilities are endless.
You can also add things like a few drops of lemon or some almonds. This is only a basic reference after all. In all recipes there is always leeway to change the ingredients and their amounts.
Put everything into the bread machine. The order in which you put the ingredients will be written on the bread machine. Use the dough cycle and get going. Once the dough cycle ends you can remove the dough and make into a loaf shape. Place it on a greasy bread pan and put it back in. You will now need to wait about 40 minutes. Preheat the oven to 325 degrees when it’s almost done.
Put the loaf into the oven after lightly cleansing it with water and put it into the oven until it is tinted with a nice brown color. This should take about 40-50 minutes.
Let it cool down for a few minutes and you’re good to go!
As I mentioned earlier, some people also like to use a mixture of almonds and lemon with their bread, and although this actually makes it quite nice, remember that you can use your own creativity to come up with your own ingredients. Enjoy your Swedish cardamom bread!
